FAQs
Beechcrest Animal Clinic frequently asked questions and answers!
When should I start my kitten/puppy’s first vaccines?
We recommend to start first vaccines at 6 weeks of age
Should I get my pet microchipped?
According to the City of Houston Municipal Code, anyone who owns, keeps, possesses, or has control of a dog or cat four months of age or older must have his or her pet registered, vaccinated against rabies every year, and a registered microchip.
Do you offer vaccine packages?
We do! Just give us a call or stop by to get more details.
When should I take my pet to urgent care/emergency?
Outside of our regular hours, if a doctor is unavailable or if your pet’s condition is life-threatening
Do you offer spay and neuter services?
Yes we do! Call us to get more information.
Why should I spay or neuter my pet?
There are many medical reasons to spay/neuter your pet. It can prevent breast, prostate, and testicular cancer, prevents pets from running away from home, and (in female pets) it can prevent pyometra – an infection in the uterus. Schedule a consult with Dr. Hassan to further discuss the benefits of spays and neuters.
Should my pet be on heartworm prevention?
Yes, we highly recommend your pet being on prevention year round! Heartworms are no joke, and treatment for heartworms is harsh on your pet and your wallet. There are many options for prevention, just pick the most convenient for you!
Do I need an exam?
Your pet needs an exam by a veterinarian to receive prescriptions, including preventive medications. Routine exams are also an opportunity to monitor your pet’s health, catch any issues early, and ensure that they’re getting the right care to live a long, happy life. Even if your pet seems healthy, preventive care is key to maintaining their health and addressing any problems before they become serious. It’s much easier (and less expensive) to prevent illness than to treat it once it’s advanced.
My pet doesn’t go outside, should I still give them flea prevention?
Absolutely! Fleas are resilient and only die in extremely cold environments, which, as we know, isn’t exactly the case here in Houston. Believe it or not, fleas can bite humans, though we’re not their preferred meal. They’re typically brought into our homes on pets (and sometimes even by us), where they can quickly infest carpets, furniture, and other areas.
Do you provide hospital care?
Yes, we do. Dr. Hassan is fully equipped to provide the hospital care your pet may need in certain situations. Our services include surgeries, short-term hospitalizations, in-house diagnostics, reference labs, and much more.
